No, it’s not the Cassie spoiler. Or it is but that I’ve been loud about forever and I will keep on being loud about forever.
No, no, it’s about Billy and how he has been searching for Wanda and… I guess that it seems a little incongruent, how obsessed he has been, for me. I mean… it’s a little awkward, and I wish the story remembered more often to challenge Billy with how his biological parents are probably worried sick about him and that they weren’t dismissed so often. Because, see, the point is, when Wanda as all about hugging Billy and saying how a mom always would know her children, I couldn’t be moved about it because I was all ‘dude. DUDE. What about your _real mom_, the one who, you know, raised you and took care of you when you were sick and wished she could protect you from the bullies’?
It’s not about me thinking something stupid like only bio-parents count. That is stupid as hell. Parent is someone who cares about you and raises you and loves you. I would never EVER consider saying that Teddy’s mom wasn’t his mom, for example.
But… Billy has amazing parents. For a comic book character he has his TWO parents not only alive, but also happily married and together. Not only that, but they seem to be in the middle-up class, both of them are successful doctors, and both of them care about their children. Not only that! The Kaplan fully and completely support their son in something that I wish was more common, not only in fiction but in real life. Son tells them he’s gay? Welcome his boyfriend to the family. Son is a mutant? Treat him the same and, young man, you are still grounded for not meeting your curfew. They win a lot of awards in the Comic Book Parents department. But I disgress. My point is.
I don’t get Billy’s obssession with finding Wanda. If it was a focus over trying to understand his powers or something, or maybe learning to control them, or hell, even making it so that the M day was over? That, I could get. But Billy’s focus does seem to be an ‘omg I need to find my real mom!’ and. I don’t get his motivation. His real mom is Rebecca Kaplan.
I could understand Teddy’s special with Marvel, and I had no troubles with Teddy wanting to know about him. It’d be different if, for example, this was Cassie. If Cassie suddenly found out that her bio-mom isn’t her mom or that she could have a soul-mom or something, I’d understand completely her wanting to find out, because Cassie’s mom has been emotionally abusive towards her for years. Or, you know, if it was about the Maximoff family, it would have made so much more sense if it was Tommy the one who wanted to find out Wanda. Tommy, whose parents not only locked him up but obviously didn’t care at all about what was being done to their son in there, Tommy who more than once said how he felt like he didn’t belong to the team.
I could have bought Tommy needing to find Wanda and call her mom.
With Billy? Each time he calls Wanda mom I make a displeased frown and think about the Kaplan because, yes, we didn’t get much info on them, but they were nice and kind and I hate how the story and Billy has been treating them so far.
